Gudipudi means “The Land of Temples”. The village was found by some cattle rearers during Pallava period in 11th century. The name is derived from the temples, which it possess from a long time. The legend goes this way , In this village there used to be 101 NagaLingas. Since it had that many number of idols it is named as "GUDULAPUDI" and over the time name transformed into GUDIPUDI.
